HISTORY
The exact date of the formation of what is now
known as the Cornbelt Federation is unclear. However, in 1940 the Nebraska
Federation was recorded with eight clubs located in eight cities in the
state of Nebraska. By 1949, that number increased to 11 clubs in as many cities.
In 1952 the federation name was changed to the
Cornhusker Federation. In recognition of two Iowa clubs that had been added
to the federation, members voted to change the name in 1957 to the Cornbelt
Federation.
The Federation has a long and distinguished
history in Cosmopolitan International; hosting seven International
Conventions and giving rise to eleven International Presidents.
From 1946-1950 the Cosmopolitan International
Headquarters was located in Kearney, Nebraska. The office was then moved to
Lincoln, Nebraska in 1950 where it resided until 1953.
Never one to rest on its laurels, in 1993
members of the Cornbelt Federation formed the Cornbelt Diabetes Connection.
With a goal of providing early diabetes detection, diabetes education, and
resources for individuals with diabetes living in the Nebraska-Iowa area.
